The 1 pound gold sovereign coins from Great Britain have been minted since 1816 and 1817.

The coin shows different majesties depending on the reign.

These are the George V coins, minted from 1911 to 1932.

It is made of a gold/copper alloy (916.6/1000) similar to that of the Krugerrand.

The reverse side of the Sovereign can have different motifs depending on the year of issue, the most famous one shows St. George fighting a dragon.

From 1925 to 1932, King George V had sovereign coins minted in the British colony of South Africa.

There was a branch of the Royal Mint in Pretoria.

The SA mint mark can be seen on the reverse directly above the year.
